Wednesday, February 03, 2010

The Turkish economy paper Ekonomist published the H&H Webranking result for Turkish companies today. Turkcell wins for the third time in a row, with 36.25 points (out of 100).

Turkcell are closely followed by GarantiBank, advancing one step from last year. The bronze goes to Dogan Holding, who takes a huge step forward from last year’s 18 position. Overall it is shown that Turkish companies have high ambitions but the websites need an upgrade in order to match up to their Western European peers.

“Turkcell, manage to stay unbeaten since we started to evaluate Turkish websites three years ago. Telecommunications companies are traditionally good at communicate online and Turkcell follows this path. Turkcell has an international approach and scores high above the Turkish average for their financial information section and their welcoming start page. Turkcell is also above the European average in these areas,” says Marcus Eriksson.

Turkey compare to Europe

Comparing the different sections in the survey, it is within Corporate Governance and Contact information, where the Turkish companies show their strongest results. Turkish companies present Rating information to a greater extent than the rest of Europe. A Corporate Governance Report is also more frequent found on Turkish websites than the average European company.

The increased demands for financial transparency has unfortunately affected the Turkish companies more severely than the rest of Europe and it is evident that Turkish corporate websites could do more to meet the tougher investor demands seen this year.
